This course is designed for pastoral and ministry students, and all Christians. It examines the fundamental tenets of Christianity as enshrined in the Bible. It provides an insight into how a Christian can be formed spiritually, while interrogating contemporary Church views about Spiritual Formation. It will survey the meaning of Spiritual Formation and explore the various ways and tenets by which the believer and Christian leader can be formed spiritually. It will review the theological dichotomy of character and charisma as espoused by some Bible Teachers of what a Christian must look like spiritually. It will help students draw lessons and answer questions on what every believer must do to be formed spiritually and what pastoral leaders need to do to help believers mould their spiritual character and charisma.
This course presents a comprehensive review of the many different ways in which the Church has understood Jesus Christ through the centuries. A Biblical, historical and theological exploration of the person and work of Christ, with special reference to the practical implications of this doctrine for the disciple-making mission of the church. An emphasis will be placed on personal appropriation of the material covered by means of frequent in-class discussions. It is a quest to demonstrate the ongoing relevance of the orthodox Christian conviction that Jesus the Messiah is fully God and fully human. Major themes include the incarnation, life and ministry, atoning death, resurrection, and ascension of the Son of God. The Christological dimensions of Pentecostal and charismatic teachings are also examined.
The course will concentrate on the foundational sources in Christian ethics and examine the moral significance of major theological themes and affirmations. It will show how these foundational sources and themes guide ethical understanding concretely by examining one or more pressing issues of the day (e.g. abortion, euthanasia, poverty, medical ethics, among others).
This course is designed to provide learners with a general, introductory overview of the Bible by examining selected books of the OT and NT in their historical context, and paying attention to how all of them fit together to tell the larger story of God’s activity in the world.
This course explores a general worldview and biblical perspective of team leadership and its theories with key elements of the course requiring students to critically evaluate and understand their individual tendencies, personalities and styles in teamwork and Team building and conflict resolution. The course further seeks to imbibe in students the Christ-like team leadership style and having them appreciate the role of a servant leader in leading teams this dispensation. The course covers areas such as Understanding Team leadership its theories and principles, importance of leadership in Teams and teamwork, mistakes to avoid in leading teams, factors to consider in building effective ministry teams, Skills every team leader should have, Conflict Resolution in teams as well as principles of Jesus’ leadership approaches as a way of sharpening their team leadership skills.
The course seeks to deploy the basic church growth strategies including Biblical, theological and practical methods and organizational strategies in growing a New Testament church. It explores the affective or heart leadership model of the pastor and the leadership roles required in pastoral ministry in establishing and growing a local assembly.
This class is a general introduction to Christian Counselling, an introduction to the field of counselling from a Christian perspective showing the integration of psychology with theology. Attention will be given to some basic counselling skills, the models of Christian Counselling and the nature of the human being and Health.
This program is to introduce students to a broad understanding of contemporary issues in counselling, and develop basic skills on how to approach such issues. It will also help expose them to the biopsychosocial spiritual approach to issues and help them holistically address issues, whilst engaging all stakeholders in providing solutions to clients.
Leadership key components of life, have evolved from apprenticing to be a leader to highly structured learning programs to develop a leader. Students explore the connections between apprenticeship and leadership, specifically the benefits, drawbacks, and the leadership model of Jesus. Case studies allow students to consider the deeper meaning of apprenticing to be a leader and why Jesus used this model of raising leaders. Through discussion and analysis, students move towards understanding the person of Jesus, his leadership and model of leadership, and/or modifying their own existing leadership style.
The course seeks to help students understand the step by step approach to move to a location with the aim of reaching out to the people in that location with the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is the back-breaking, culture penetrating, darkness shattering initial work to penetrate, plant the Church, see it flourish, get it’s own elders, train it’s own people, and evangelize its own networks.
